OctoberFast 2021 - Week 2

OctoberFast 2021 is happening now! Our theme this year is “Commissioned,” which, as Pastor Gee talked about last week, is about us being co-missioned with God to expand the Kingdom of God in the world. We are excited to see what the Lord is doing and will do as we meet with Him in prayer and fasting this month. You can find all the information you’ll need for OctoberFast on the OctoberFast page and app, including the guidebook and weekly prayer focus. Paper copies of the guidebook are also available up front here.

What is our focus this week?
  • Fasting is about intentionally going without things like food, tv, soda, or posting on social media in order to humble ourselves with practical dependence on God. This week’s fast is CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE style, with the specific directive of the fast up to each individual.
  • Over the weekend, please spend some time asking God to lead you into the focus of your unique fast. We encourage families to decide together about the focus of their fasting for the week. The goal of this week’s fast is to follow God’s leading, as best as we can discern. If you aren’t sensing a particular leading, consider: fasting from one meal a day, fasting from drinking any liquids besides water, fasting from sweets or treats, or taking another week to fast from screens.
  • Like every fast week, the fast starts Monday morning and goes through Friday at 6pm.
  • Our scripture focus this week will be Isaiah 43: 8-13. The Israelites had been defeated and forced to relocate to a foreign country largely due to their unfaithfulness, yet God still called them to proclaim what they knew – that despite their current circumstances, they follow a God who saves, loves, and protects. As you read and pray this week, ask God to show you what it means to be His witness regardless of circumstances.
What are our prayer opportunities this year?
  • We are encouraging everyone to dedicate the first 30 minutes of each day to the Lord. See what God will do when you start your day meeting with Him.
  • You are invited to join the Prayer Ministry at 4th Watch prayer via Zoom every Friday morning from 3-6am to share prayer, observations, and revelations about what God is doing.
  • You are invited to participate in personal and community prayer using our shared prayer sign up. We invite you to sign up for times you will commit to prayer as an individual or with others. You can also use this link to share your own prayer requests (by name or anonymously) as well as insights, revelations, or encouragement for others on the shared community prayer wall.
And, finally, save the date! A special Commissioning Service is going to take place on Saturday, October 23 from 10 AM - 4 PM here at the church. This will be a time for our church leaders and prayer ministry to lay hands on you and pray over your own commissioning, whatever or wherever that might be.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Min Úna Lucey-Lee.
