2019 Fast Theme – “Being A Part Of Something Big…& Eternal
This year’s theme aimss to get us as a church to focus on joining the mission of God in the world by understanding that we were created to be co-laborers with God in bringing hope, healing and salvation into this world. We are fasting this October to listen for God’s heart concerning how we find our calling, function and sense of worth that is rooted in mission together with God. We are also seeking after God’s heart more diligently. One of the major perks of our salvation is the call to being co-labors with Christ and to be friends of God. There is no greater mission than the one for which we have been created… God’s mission of hope and salvation to a dying world.
“There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink. So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.” 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 NIRV
Pastor Alex’s Word of Encouragement Concerning OctoberFAST
So many things vie for our attention each day. Our minds and hearts are continuously engaged in personal matters, spiritual warfare, professional aspirations, family needs, financial limitations, environmental issues, etc. As a result, we feel overwhelmed. Fasting is a spiritual discipline used by God to “settle” our hearts by calling us away from the popular “distracting respite centers” of overeating, web-surfing, texting, channel-surfing, shopping, busyness, drinking excessively, socializing, etc. Fasting calls us to give God our full attention in order to become preoccupied with God and God’s purposes in the world.
I hope that we fight desperately for quiet time to hear God’s silent voice and that we pray for faith and courage to embrace what has been revealed. I also deeply hope that we experience exponential spiritual growth in our personal and congregational lives.
Grateful for Joy in Jesus,
